Cruise/Resort 2016 Collection
As Spring unfolds, we witness these high end brands' phenomenal showcase of their Cruise/Resort 2016 Collection..
Chanel Resort 2016

Chanel Resort 2016

Karl Lagerfeld decided to bring Coco’s Resort 2016 collection all the way to the eastern hemisphere, Seoul. Korea offered the eclectic designer a trove of inspiration, just see it from a cultural point of view the K-Pop phenomenon. The front row attendees were made up of fashion enthusiasts, from Gisele Bundchen, Kristen Stewart, Tilda Swinton and of course K-pop superstars dressed in the most stylish street-wear Seoul style. With the perfect backdrop of Dongdaemun Design Plaza, models started walking to the stage dressed in identical manga kewpies, tangled in hats of braided black hair. With no exception, Chanel Resort 2016 show displays a busy pattern with brightly colored patchwork, a technique that Lagerfeld credit Korean culture. It isn’t Chanel if not for their use of mother of pearl embroidery and tweed, this time the collection highlights these two incremental texture in black wrap dressed for pearls and high empire flaring sleeves for tweeds. It is safe to say this is the season of culottes and Chanel delivered their culottes in distinct turquoise lace.

Dior Resort 2016

Dior Resort 2016

Following up with Chanel’s and Louis Vuitton’s bold move, the globe-trotting fashion pack descended upon Cannes for Dior. Just like the preceding brands’ shows, monumental architecture seemed to develop into a trend, and on that note, Dior hosted their Resort 2016 Show at Bubble Palace, 'Palais Bulles', located on Riviera coastline, also recognized as Pierre Cardin’s residence. For Resort 2016 collection, the designer showcased basic color on flattering silhouettes, perforated details to integrating shiny sequined-like fabrics with codes of the historic house. One thing that seemed to tip-off is that though the collection screamed summer, all the models sported pointed boots that seem a little unappealing and uncomfortable.

Evidently, Raf Simmons emphasized on the prominence of impeccable tailoring, nipped waists tucked by gathered peplums and curved accents- like a crochet skirt. If you paid closer attention, you will be impressed by the little details of mismatched earrings worn by models. No this is not coincidental; looks like this will be an upcoming trend. Kudos to Dior!

Max Mara Resort 2016

Max Mara Resort 2016

Goodbye New York, Hello London! The opening of a fine new Max Mara three-story store located at Old Bond Street gave urge to showcase the Resort collection here instead of its recent residency in New York.
Unlike other brands, Max Mara started the show with a domineering case of pinstripe and chalk stripe on capes and coats worn over monotonous basics. Although the idea of mink head guards and mittens contradicts the supposedly Pre-Spring/Summer concept, it gave Max Mara a boxing edginess. Thankfully, printed warm-up robes later mitigated the monochromatic range. Suddenly colors of daffodil yellow to peony pink popped out and gridded florals. The one thing that never seems to leave all the looks is, chunky Obi-inspired belt monogrammed with ‘M’ and layered modern athletic-leisure shorts.

Louis Vuitton Cruise 2016

Louis Vuitton Cruise 2016

Behind every great fashion shows is a great concept that embodies it all, for Louis Vuitton’s Cruise 2016 show, Nicholas Ghesquière decided it be a globe-trotting concept. This time the fashion show is housed in Bop Hope's Palm Springs home with the magnificent desert backdrop, don’t forget this is a globe-trotting concept, so it is best to venture the prints. From vivid, high-impact tribal designs, stained glass dresses, paisley, to chain patterns. The exciting range of prints were translated into dreamy maxi dresses, or a floor-grazing gown in crimson leather with a ruffled neckline and LV monogram cutouts that zipped all the way down. "Something long and with fluidity, this was very important for me to express this season," he explained. "A different attitude, effortless and cool, and with flat shoes and long skirts and a certain lightness of the fabrics." On a happier note, long gone were the hype on culottes, hot pant is the new it-item! And to make it even better, Ghesquière added texture to the next level, from Glossy, snakeskin-like embroideries, perforated lambskin, dense, color-blocked sequins to studded details. Pay closer attention and you’ll see hiking boots and layers of monogrammed pendants complimenting the whole look.
